Happy Client: Michelle Desierto

Makati Dog and Cat Hospital was recommended by a colleague at UST. He is an esteemed medical doctor. I told him my cat Miki has been having problems with his breathing. He told me if I want excellent care for my beloved Miki, I have to take him to that hospital.

Their way of diagnosing animal illnesses is likened to humans. No speculations, all with proper tests, procedures, and medication.

I first brought Miki to the hospital because of inflamed lungs and after a few treatments and loving care, he was healed.

After quite some time, I brought another cat of mine, Ming. He was obviously in pain because of UTI. He underwent procedure and got healed as well. Both Miki and Ming are in excellent health now.

On August 22, 2018, I brought my Mimaw to Makati Dog and Cat Hospital because I felt something was not right. After her blood test, ultrasound, and Xray, the good vets found out she had pyometra, a life-threatening illness. On that same day, she underwent surgery (removal of the entire uterus). In addition, she was constipated.

After a few more trips to the vet, some procedures such as enema, intense loving care, sleepless nights, and the excellent skills and expertise of Dr. Santos, Dr. Venzon, Dr. Binogon, and Dr. Padilla all my beloved family members (Miki, Ming, and Mimaw) are of the best of health.

I could not thank you enough, dear doctors, for the dedication, professionalism, and big heart. This hospital is indeed the best! I highly recommend it and their excellent veterinarians.

Pet Grooming Philippines: Can Your Dog Have Grooming Even When Pregnant?

A common question encountered by vets when it comes to pet grooming is this: Can your dog have grooming even when pregnant?

And yes, I get this question often.

It may sound a pretty straightforward question but the answer depends on how you care for your dog. You might want to answer these questions first:

Does your dog strictly follow a grooming schedule? Is your dog already acquainted being groomed that she doesn’t mind taking a bath at all? Is your dog not stressed when taking a bath?

If you answer all the three questions are a sure YES, then your pregnant dog can go ahead and have a grooming session.

But if any of that question you answered No, then avoid grooming for now.

Your mommy dog might not be comfortable of being groomed and can make her stressed. You do not want to be a contributor to her stress and want to make her feel at ease all the time.

Pet Grooming Philippines: Caring For Your Pregnant Dog

What you can do for your dog for now is give her the proper diet and nutrition to make her healthy as well as her babies.

Do not forget to bring your pregnant dog to the vet for check-up. You can also ask your vet how to properly care for your pregnant dog so she can have a smooth pregnancy. This includes asking about the right food you can give to your pregnant dog.

Ask your vet as well if they can take in emergencies in any case your dog might face a challenge when giving birth to her puppies. If they don’t cater to emergency cases, know which pet hospital nearest you that you can go to .

For now, if your dog is pregnant and not used to have grooming, then delay it for now. You can let her have her grooming session when the puppies are out and she is back to her old self.

Typhoon Survival for Your Pets

Typhoon season is here and everyone is preparing for these storms as they come.

People nowadays are more vigilant in preparing, more so for super typhoons like Ompong.

Have you included the safety of your pets in your preparation?

Instead of talking about pet grooming as I promised in my last post, I decided to write this to share some tips on typhoon survival for your pets.

Typhoon Survival for Your Pets

Chuvaness.com, one of our local food bloggers had a timeless article on this topic. Her post is based on the tips of the World Animal Protection:

Here’s the most important excerpt from her blog:

What to prepare for your pets:

  1. Food. Store at least three days of non-perishable pet food (canned or dried) in an airtight, waterproof container (remember the can opener!). Ideally this should be the same food as your normally feed your pet so as to avoid stomach upsets.
  1. Water. Store at least three days of water for your pet, in addition to the water you need for your family (remember an animal can drink more water than usual when under stress). Plus you will need extra water to clean up after your pet.
  1. Medicines. Store any extra supply of medicines your pet needs in a waterproof container, as well as any special dietary needs or supplements.
  1. Veterinary/Medical Records. Store copies of any medical and vaccination records in a watertight container or ziplock bag including your vet’s name and telephone number (in case you have to shelter your pet or place them in foster care).
  1. First Aid Kit. Prepare a first aid kit. Talk to your vet about any specific requirements such as tick/flea prevention, antibiotic ointment and saline solution (i.e. eye wash solution separate from your family use)

How Often Should You Do Pet Grooming During “Ber” Months?

Kumusta na kayo ng pet mo?

Ang bilis ng panahon, we are now in the “Ber” months and it’s starting to feel cold. During “Ber” months, we get questions related to Pet Grooming.

How often should you do pet grooming during “Ber” months?

Allow me to answer you this important question, with the perspective of both a Vet and a Pet Owner.

Also, I will keep it short and sweet by answering it in 3 brief posts. Watch out for Part 1 and I hope to see you in the next emails, okay?

How often should you do pet grooming during “Ber” months?

Our protocol here in Makati Dog and Cat Hospital is to encourage pet owners to have their dogs groomed at least once a week.

Once a week is the preferred grooming schedule, most especially if you sleep with your dogs or members of your family hug them often.

We advice the same during “Ber” months.

The next most asked question on pet grooming is this:

“How Much?”

How Much is Your Pet Grooming Service?

Behind your “how much” question is a deeper concern. Let me guess, your more pressing question is this:

“Where can I have pet grooming at the most affordable rate … and where my pet will be safe?”

Tama ba? Let me know if this is your real concern by commenting a “Yes”.

I’ll wait for your comment.

As promised, I’m keeping this short and sweet. I’ll answer your deeper concern in my next post, I hope this is okay with you.

Meantime, keep in mind that once a week is the preferred pet grooming schedule, most especially if you sleep with your pet or members of your family hug them often.

Enjoy peace of mind,
