Pet Neutering and Spaying: What Are These And What Do You Need To Know

When you welcome a new pet in your home, do you ever think that you want to add more pets in a year or two? Or you just want to take care of that pet without any more additions in the near future?

How sure are you that your female dog or cat will not get pregnant or your male dog or cat will not go out there and impregnate another dog or cat?

If you are a responsible pet owner, most likely you have encountered the term: Pet Neutering or Pet Spaying. But have you really dug deep and understand these? If you have then well and good but if these are still vague to you then read on.

What is Pet Neutering?

Neutering is the term for the castration of male animals. Medically this is called Orchiectomy. The testes are removed from the male cat or dog hence, the animal’s breeding behavior are reduced or eliminated.

What is Pet Spaying?

Spaying is the term for removal of the reproductive organs of the female dog or cat. In medical term this is Ovariohysterectomy where the uterus, fallopian tubes and ovaries are removed. The female cat and dog will not experience heat cycles as well as breeding behavior.

Basically, the Pet Neutering and Spaying are the same and only differs in the gender of the dog or cat. Though in general terms, neutering can apply to both genders while spaying is for females only.

Why Should Every Pet Owner Consider Pet Neutering and Spaying?

The reality of pets today is that there is overpopulation. Even puppies and kittens are put to sleep as they may be unwanted or abandoned. Shelters are threatened of overpopulation and dwindling food supply for pets that are not anymore wanted.

With the sad situation of homeless pets, responsible pet owners can make a difference when opting for pet neutering and spaying. This means that you only take care of pets that you think you can own and afford.

Still not sure about Pet Neutering or Spaying? Talk to your vet and discuss the best options for your pet.

Top 3 Practical Reasons Why You Should Have Pet Grooming in A Pet Hospital – Part 3

Have you read my last 2 posts on pet Grooming?

If not you can check them here: Part 1 Part 2

I answered the #1 Question asked on Pet Grooming.

Did you know that most pet owners like you ask the same question?

I also shared a secret information that most pet clinics don’t want you to know. If you missed my emails, you must scroll down below.

Now on to our last valuable tip on Pet Grooming …

Is It Really Safe To Have Your Pet Grooming Done in A Pet Hospital?

Pet owners, like you, may be worried over the risk of being exposed to sickness when bringing their pets in a pet hospital.

But let me point out ONE VERY IMPORTANT FACTOR that most pet owners miss:

Hospitals have very rigid standards in keeping our place clean to minimize contamination. Pet Hospitals, like us, take extra precaution more than an ordinary clinic or any grooming facility.

In Makati Dog and Cat Hospital, we have very strict procedures to minimize contamination inside the hospital.

We are taking this to the next level by having a separate area for our premier pet grooming.

When you try our Premium Pet Grooming Service, you’ll see that it is done in a special area, just several meters from our main hospital facility.

Again, the same level of cleanliness standard is also in place to keep it virus-free.

Now, for the summary.

Why You Should Have Your Pet Grooming Done in A Pet Hospital

More than having a trained pet groomer, you will feel secure having our licensed Vet nearby checking on your pet while having him groomed.

Also, you’ll enjoy convenience! When you go to us for pet grooming, you can have your pet’s vaccination, deworming or regular anti-fleas and ticks treatment – all in just ONE VISIT.

Lastly, you’ll feel safe – Makati Dog and Cat Hospital is very strict in cleanliness, avoidance of contamination is our main concern. Hence, our premier pet grooming is done in a separate area within our pet hospital.

There you have it!

Remember: Once a week is the preferred pet grooming schedule, most especially if you sleep with your dogs or members of your family hug them often.

If you want to feel safe and secure, have your pet grooming in a Pet Hospital!

I hope to see you and your pet soon!

… And also, when you visit us for pet grooming, pls. tell Ms. Mylez that you read my emails [wink! wink!]

Top 3 Practical Reasons Why You Should Have Pet Grooming in A Pet Hospital – Part 2

Are you one of them?

Most pet owners have this MISCONCEPTION.

This wrong perception often leads to critical conditions that can harm your pet.

Here’s the most common misconception: It’s Expensive To Do Pet Grooming In A Pet Hospital

The opposite hold true: It is more practical to do pet grooming in a Pet Hospital simply because of ONE REASON.

Practicalities of Pet Grooming In A Pet Hospital

‘Di ba you go to your Vet for vaccination, deworming, check ups, anti-rabies shots or anti fleas and ticks?

Did you know that you can have these other services done with pet grooming?

“Para isang puntahan na lang,” sabi nga ng isang Pet Owner. “Stress din kasi sa pets ko yung pag punta sa Vet.”

Tama sya di ba?

Hassle yung pa-balik balik ka sa pet salon just for one service like grooming lang, then you’ll go to your Vet for vaccination. Dalawang labas ng bahay and it means your pet experiences DOUBLE STRESS!

When you go to a Pet Hospital for pet grooming, you can have your pet’s vaccination, deworming or regular anti-fleas and ticks treatment – all in just ONE VISIT.

It’s more practical, it’s more cost efficient to have your pet grooming in a Pet Hospital.

This is one thing that other pet clinics don’t want you to know.

Now, you are one of the few who know better.

I hope this series of articles is helping you. Let me know if you want more of these, feel free to PM us in our FB Page

Can I ask you this question: Are you sleeping with your pet?

If yes, I am writing this with you in mind.

In my last post, I answered your most pressing question on pet grooming: How often should you do pet grooming during “Ber” months?

Short Answer: Once a week is the preferred pet grooming schedule, most especially if you sleep with your dogs or members of your family hug them often.

Today, I’ll answer your next question: How Much Is Your Pet Grooming Service?

But tell me honestly … is this your real concern?

Let me guess, your more pressing question is this:

“Where can I have pet grooming at the most affordable rate … and where my pet will be safe?”

Tama ba na ito ang real concern mo?

I hear you. I’m also a Pet Owner like you.

My BEST ANSWER is this: You’ll feel safer by having your pet grooming in a Pet Hospital

Allow me to explain how we do Premium Pet Grooming in our Pet Hospital:

#1 Reason Why You’ll Feel Safe Having Pet Grooming In A Pet Hospital:

You’ll feel more secure with a Licensed Vet around overseeing the grooming.

A True Story

This is a true story: Our Groomer is shampooing Fluffy, a Corgi. While doing this, he sensed a mass in the lower abdomen of Fluffy.

After grooming, he called our Licensed Vet for a quick check-up – This is part of our Protocol in Makati Dog and Cat Hospital.

To keep the story short, the mass turned out to be an undelivered baby of Fluffy. She was saved from a threatening condition, simply because a Vet was there and was able to do the check up. [Can you just imagine if this was left undetected?]

This is just one of the many untold stories that we Vets have … that pet owners seldom hear.

Now, you are one of the few who know better.

You want more of these untold stories? I have another one, promise!

See you in my next post!

Pet Grooming Philippines: Can Your Dog Have Grooming Even When Pregnant?

A common question encountered by vets when it comes to pet grooming is this: Can your dog have grooming even when pregnant?

And yes, I get this question often.

It may sound a pretty straightforward question but the answer depends on how you care for your dog. You might want to answer these questions first:

Does your dog strictly follow a grooming schedule? Is your dog already acquainted being groomed that she doesn’t mind taking a bath at all? Is your dog not stressed when taking a bath?

If you answer all the three questions are a sure YES, then your pregnant dog can go ahead and have a grooming session.

But if any of that question you answered No, then avoid grooming for now.

Your mommy dog might not be comfortable of being groomed and can make her stressed. You do not want to be a contributor to her stress and want to make her feel at ease all the time.

Pet Grooming Philippines: Caring For Your Pregnant Dog

What you can do for your dog for now is give her the proper diet and nutrition to make her healthy as well as her babies.

Do not forget to bring your pregnant dog to the vet for check-up. You can also ask your vet how to properly care for your pregnant dog so she can have a smooth pregnancy. This includes asking about the right food you can give to your pregnant dog.

Ask your vet as well if they can take in emergencies in any case your dog might face a challenge when giving birth to her puppies. If they don’t cater to emergency cases, know which pet hospital nearest you that you can go to .

For now, if your dog is pregnant and not used to have grooming, then delay it for now. You can let her have her grooming session when the puppies are out and she is back to her old self.

Flea and Tick 101: Where To Look To Get Rid Of These Pests

You looked forward to a relaxing evening. After all you have given your dog the recommended tick and flea preventive earlier. And effect can be expected within the day.

As you open your door, your dog happily approached with tail wagging and face obviously excited you are home.

As a pet loving person you are, you gave him a hug and you carefully checked the spots where ticks and fleas can be usually found.

Yes, they are all gone! Finally, you can get a good night sleep!

Later as you were getting ready to call it a night, you were sitting in bed reading a few pages of a new book.

Out of the corner of your eye, there’s a blurry speck moving nearby.

You checked it out thinking it was an ant.

Ugh. A tick. Just when you thought you can dream your night away.

Pet owners. Is this a familiar scene?

Just when you thought you got rid of all the ticks and fleas, one crawls on your bed, wall, curtains or floor?

Remember ticks and fleas do not only live in your pet, they can also live in your house and surroundings.

Here are the must dos in tick and flea treatment in your pet, home and surroundings.

Flea and Tick 101: Use a Tick and Flea Preventive For Your Dog

To address the presence of ticks and fleas, one of the recommendations of veterinarians is to give your dog a tick and flea preventive. The effect is fast and your dog can be protected for these parasites for as long as 8 months.

Not sure what tick and flea preventives for you, go here to learn the types.

If you do have some knowledge of anti-flea and tick products but not sure about them, you can read more here before buying.

Flea and Tick 101: Clean Up Your Home From These Pests

Ticks and fleas do not only live in your pet but in your home without you knowing it. Research shows that only 5% of these adult fleas are on your pet and the rest in your house or yard. They can be in various stages of the flea cycle.

Do not just rely on the tick and flea preventive, do a thorough cleaning of your surroundings especially on warm spots.

Vacuum your carpet, beddings and couch where your dog can easily access. Remember to remove the bag after cleaning. Check the walls and crevices in your door jambs. Ticks like to hide in dark places so be as thorough as you can. There are kitchen ingredients that can help.

You can also ask your vet the best way to clean your home from these pests.

Flea and Tick 101: Clear Your Yard From Ticks And Fleas

As if you do not have enough to do cleaning your home, you also need to clean up your yard from ticks and fleas. Fleas can live for as long as 100 days without blood meals from their hosts.

You might think it’s fine as long as these parasites are outside. But the fleas from your backyard may jump into your pet and your pet will bring them in inside your house. So keep your yard clean by trimming grasses. Grow plants that can repel these pests. Plants like rosemary, lemongrass, sage and citronella grass among others.

When you want to get rid of ticks and fleas, it is not just the ones found on your pet that you should address. Always include your home and your surroundings. This way, you are sure that you have removed these pests from your life for as long as you live.

If you need further help on getting rid of ticks and fleas, do not hesitate to go the nearest vet clinic in your area.
